Some might think the two processes are of a conflicting nature. Not so! None of our previous governments have placed any value in developing green technologies or green energy schemes. Much larger schemes such as these will reduce our dependence on utility companies. Investment towards the conversion of existing heating systems to biomass heating, would serve to reduce the cost of fuel chips further and provide a welcome use of wood off-cuts.

There are many over green technologies that I have not described here such as geothermic energy, wind up torches and energy saving bulbs that require less wattage for the same luminescence as conventional bulbs.

Since I obtained solar panels with the last grant scheme from the Energy Saving Trust, I have seen my energy bills reduce significantly and now I am able to produce over 72% of the annual general electricity consumption of my business, by harnessing energy form the sun. The price of metal has increased and scrap merchants are finding that their trade has increased ten fold in recent years. However, often in the race to recycle the process is ignored to meet targets. This has led to energy wastes that could have been reduced with a little more care. For instance if you have a black bag full of paper and the recycling depot is 100yards away – why drive their in a car? The London Assembly report, _Lagging Behind - Insulating homes in London_, followed a major investigation by the London Assembly's Environment Committee, chaired by Darren Johnson. It called on the Mayor to set out an ambitious programme to expand home insulation rapidly. It also urged Boris Johnson to simplify, for Londoners, the process of getting insulation - bringing different schemes together under one phone number that provides advice and helps arrange for installers to visit. Whereas police officers used to have to justify every arrest and be aware of whether or not a particular piece of legislation gave them power, they no longer have to do so. The power to deprive someone of their liberty should only be exercised in the most extreme circumstances, yet young and inexperienced police officers, (and soon, PCSO's), are being trained that arrest and detention of a suspect is the first option in most encounters with the public. This sweeping power is being roundly abused on a daily basis in all of the 43 police forces in this country and puts you, your wife, husband or partner, your children and your friends at risk of arbitrary action by the police.

I spent 35 years of my adult life in the Police Service and am appalled by what it has become, largely as a result of powers such as those granted under Section 110.

Petitioning the Prime Minister will probably do little to stop the drift of this country to what has been described as a 'Stasi State' but I would nonetheless ask that you consider placing your signature on the petition - if only to see how the government responds to genuine concern from thoughtful citizens.

Click for the petition.

Thank you,
David Gilbertson QPM
(formerly Assistant Inspector of Constabulary
Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary,
Home Office (retired 2001))

{"$t":"weggis
$t":"weggis66@yahoo.co.uk"},"gd$extendedProperty":{"xmlns$gd":"http://schemas.google.com/g/2005
OpenSocialUserId
11605585240244105659"}}],"thr$total":{"xmlns$thr":"http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0","$t":"2
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7635017933984421571.post-2408033093851872651
$t":"2009-03-14T15:18:00.003Z
$t":"2009-03-14T15:28:23.716Z
text","$t":"The Green New Deal
html","$t":"It is revealing when political parties attack each other, especially the grey ones.
